Sharing stories about research, creative activity, teaching, and the efforts of students is a great way to help the public understand the vital work of UWindsor, says Lori Lewis of the Office of Public Affairs and Communications.
“We encourage everyone on campus to think about how their work and the work of their colleagues helps to support the University’s strategic priorities to provide an exceptional undergraduate experience; pursue strengths in research and graduate education; recruit and retain the best faculty and staff; engage in community partnerships; and promote international engagement,” says Lewis, manager of news services in PAC. “We all have a story to tell about the work we do each day and PAC can help these stories reach the right audience.”
Lewis says her office provides direction and assistance on communications strategies tailored to individual needs.
“Depending on your story and your audience we may reach out to the media, use social media, or share your story through DailyNews,” she says. “Getting the word out about what you are doing can take many forms and depends on what you want to say, why you want to say it, and who needs to hear your message. You may wish to reach out to current or future students, or you may have something to say to policymakers, funders, research peers or the public in general. There is always a way for PAC to help with your communications.”
She says public affairs staff have recently created a four-question survey to help clients assess their communications needs. Find the document on the department’s website: www.uwindsor.ca/pac/getting-the-word-out.
