The spring concert of the University Jazz Ensemble, Friday at the Capitol Theatre, promises to put a jump in your step and jive in your stride.
Vocal performances by students in Shahida Nurullah’s studio will join instrumentalists on trumpet, trombone, sax, keyboard, guitar, bass, and drums through a repertoire that includes touchstones by Johnny Mercer, Nat Adderley, Johnny Mandel, Carlos Santana, and Dizzy Gillespie.
Director Robert Fazecash will also lead the High School Honour Jazz Ensemble through a set of standards by Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Thelonius Monk, and more.
