The University of Windsor wishes to congratulate provost Leo Groarke on his appointment as president of Trent University, which made the announcement Friday. Dr. Groarke begins his new duties on July 1.
“During his four years at the University of Windsor, Dr. Groarke has helped guide our academic mission and has provided leadership and mentoring to those who worked with him,” said UWindsor president Alan Wildeman. “Among other things, he has helped us shape our vision for the downtown campus and has reimagined student recruitment. I know he will be a great addition to the Trent University community.”
Groarke said he is excited to take up this new post, but will miss the University of Windsor.
“I have found it a very warm and welcoming place and have very much enjoyed the opportunity to work with President Wildeman, the rest of the administrative team, and all the faculty and staff on the academic side of our operations,” he said. “I think Windsor is going in a tremendously positive direction and will be watching its further development with great interest.”
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a farewell reception for Groarke on March 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Vanier Hall’s Katzman Lounge.
The University of Windsor will appoint an acting provost and immediately begin a search to fill the position.
