The Christmas party Thursday in the International Student Centre meant different things to different attendees.
For some, it was a chance to learn about new traditions, while for others it was a reminder of home.
Many observe the holiday in his native China, said Bowen Feng, but not like Canadians.
“I get to see how Canada celebrates,” said the master of management student, just completing his first semester of studies in Windsor. “I’m just getting used to all the things people do here.”
He enjoyed playing games, trimming the tree, decorating cookies, and taking a photo with Santa, but his favourite new tradition wasn’t a part of Thursday’s festivities.
“I like the (Advent) calendar where there’s a separate pocket to open every day for a month,” Feng said.
In contrast, Precious Akpunonu is used to Christmas. She said the party activities were familiar from her family’s traditions in Nigeria, and she was happy to share them.
“There was so much joy and laughter,” said the master of management major. “If anyone missed it, they should watch out for it next year!”
