A technician in the School of Creative Arts’ Make Lab has two sculptures in a group exhibition at the Koffler Centre of the Arts in Toronto this month.

“The curator Mona Filip reached out to me, after seeing my work at Art Toronto,” explains Lucy Howe, one of 24 artists represented in the exhibition, titled Undomesticated.

“I'll have two older works in the show,” says Howe. “One is called Wardrobe, it’s a full-size wardrobe made of red oak that is slowly peeling open. The other piece is an upholstered chair called Untitled (chair), whose tufted upholstery seems to be growing and slowly taking over the form.”

The exhibition opens Sept. 18 with a public reception and runs through Nov. 17.

Through her sculpture and objects, Howe is interested in subverting the everyday and exploring the physical and metaphorical structures of common spaces, objects and activities.

The Koffler Gallery is located in the Artscape Youngplace, at 180 Shaw St., Toronto.
