Faculty and staff who park on campus are being asked to continue to park in their current lots for the time being in light of the delay to the completion of the Integrated Parking and Innovation Centre. The delay has been primarily due to the two month provincial strike by the International Union of Elevator Constructors which has hindered the completion of the elevators in the seven floor parking structure and the Innovation Centre. Due to our current work stoppage, there has been limited progress on the construction.
“We will be in touch with all of our parking patrons as soon as we have word that the structure is ready for occupancy,” said Anna Kirby, Executive Director of Campus Services. “If you currently park on campus, you should stay in the lot you were in prior to the re-allocation process. Student parking remains unaffected.” Faculty and staff should continue to use their existing permit and gate access card throughout this time. The new permits and gate access cards distributed throughout the summer months should be kept in a safe place and NOT used until the parking garage is available.
As a result of the delay, Parking Services will postpone any changes to the re-allocation process beyond the original date set at October 31, 2013. No changes to the allocations will be considered until approximately two months after the garage is completely opened in order to evaluate patterns and occupancy of each lot.
We will continue updating the campus on the on-going progress of the construction.
