Alumni association to honour achievements of recent grads

Athletes, educators, entrepreneurs and entertainers are among the eight University of Windsor grads who will be honoured for their successes early in their professional careers during the University of Windsor Alumni Association’s annual general meeting on Thursday, November 15.

Alumni Association to honour outstanding mentors

The University of Windsor Alumni Association will confer its Excellence in Mentoring Award on two veteran members of faculty—and UWindsor grads—during its annual general meeting on Thursday, November 15.

The award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated excellence by offering personal, academic and professional guidance to students, and made a significant contribution to their all-round development up to and following graduation.

This year’s recipients are law professor Donna Marie Eansor (LLB 1980) and kinesiology professor Margery Holman (BA 1968, BPE 1969).

Sport management subject of lunchtime lecture

Packianathan Chelladurai, a professor of sport and fitness management in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at Alabama’s Troy University, will deliver a free public lecture entitled “Manifestations of Sport and their Management,” at noon Friday, November 2, in room 145, Human Kinetics Building.

Creativity on display in campus costumes

The campus community put its creativity on display as hundreds of University of Windsor faculty and staff haunted Winclare “A” Wednesday afternoon at the annual Hallowe'en social.

The Office of Public Affairs and Communications won first place in the group category and the prize of a pizza lunch for dressing up like sculptures in the riverfront sculpture park.

More members being sought for 'Movember' team

Phil Graniero is looking for a few mo’ men to join him in his fight against prostate cancer.

A professor in Earth and Environmental Sciences, Dr. Graniero has participated for the last couple of years in Movember. An international effort which calls on men around the planet to grow a moustache throughout the month of November, Movember raise funds for research into a cure for prostate cancer, as well as awareness for men’s mental health issues.

Windsor alumna honoured among country’s top student-athletes

Canadian Interuniversity Sport named UWindsor grad Nicole Sassine (BHK 2011, B.Ed 2012) to its Academic Top 8 for the 2011/12 season. The award recognizes one female and one male student-athlete from each of the four CIS regional associations for their academic and athletic successes.

Sassine was an A+ student in kinesiology, earning academic all-Canadian honours and membership on the Dean’s Achievement List and the President’s Honour Roll each of the past four years. In 2012, she received the DeMarco Trophy as the University’s top female student-athlete.

Weekend to welcome alumni's return to campus

The Faculty of Human Kinetics will honour its graduating class of 1987 with a reunion on Friday, November 9, and a series of reunions, receptions, and a tour of the Human Kinetics Building for all HK alumni on Saturday, November 10.

Alumni will also be featured guests at the Lancer basketball games in the St. Denis Centre on Saturday, November 10. The women play at 6 p.m. and the men play at 8 p.m.

Continuing Education Fair helps students discover possibilities

As Rita Jabbour understands it, it’s a simple formula.

“The more school you have, the more money you make over time,” said the fourth-year history major, one of hundreds of UWindsor students touring the Continuing Education Fair in the CAW Student Centre on Tuesday.

She spoke with Chris Young, program administrator for the Odette MBA, about pursuing graduate study in business.

“It would let me take what I have learned in history and apply it to help society,” Jabbour said.
