Photo shoot today to capture historic handover of former Windsor Star site

Samantha Allen likes to get her picture taken. The kinesiology student says that’s why she plans to come out today for a mass group photo celebrating the University’s takeover of the former Windsor Star buildings.

“I think it will be fun,” she says.

Students and alumni, faculty and staff, and community members will gather at noon Friday, November 30, in front of the buildings at the corner of Pitt and Ferry streets in downtown Windsor, as UWindsor president Alan Wildeman accepts the keys to the property from Star publisher Marty Beneteau.

University appoints advisor for innovation strategies

The University of Windsor is pleased to announce that Ron Gaudet will serve as special advisor, innovation strategies, for a two-year period beginning November 26. In this role, Gaudet will help create operational strategies for the University’s new Innovation Centre and Industrial Courtyard, which are slated to open in 2013.

Sale to celebrate grand opening of temporary Bookstore location today

The University of Windsor Bookstore will celebrate its grand re-opening in Vanier Hall today—Monday, November 26—with a grand sale to match the occasion.

The sale features a promotion of 50 per cent off the price of books that have already been marked down.

“Here’s one example of a book,” Bookstore marketing manager Martin Deck said. “A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving that was originally priced at $22, our regular sale price being $6.99, and the final half-off price brings it to $3.50.”

There is also a new item available just for the occasion.

Report reviews 2011-12 progress toward strategic priorities

The 2011-12 annual report, now available online, provides information on the University of Windsor’s activities in support of its strategic plan Thinking Forward … Taking Action.

UWindsor president Alan Wildeman says the document informs the campus, the region and beyond about what’s important to the University.

“Our plan puts an emphasis on our students, on building on our research and creative activity that contributes to society’s needs, and engaging the community around us,” he says.

Changes to custodial services will enhance student experience

The University of Windsor will take steps to enhance the student experience within the three buildings that handle the highest amount of student traffic volumes on campus.

The CAW Student Centre, the Human Kinetics Building and St. Denis Centre complex and the Leddy Library have been identified as the buildings that require increased custodial services, given the University of Windsor’s growing enrolment.

Flag raising kicks off campus United Way campaign

The University of Windsor’s contributions to the United Way of Windsor-Essex play a critical role in making the community a better place, according to the organization’s CEO.

“The university is a very important partner for us and we’re very grateful for all their contributions,” said Penny Marrett, who along with president Alan Wildeman, was on campus yesterday for a flag-raising ceremony to kick off this year’s annual campaign.

UWindsor Board of Governors appoints president Alan Wildeman to second six-year term

Martin Girash, chair of the University of Windsor’s Board of Governors, announced Tuesday that the board has appointed Alan Wildeman, to a second six-year term as president beginning July 1, 2014.

This appointment follows a review process carried out over the past six months. Dr. Wildeman began his current position at the University of Windsor on July 1, 2008.

Dr. Girash said he was “extremely pleased” to announce the approval of a second presidential term for Wildeman.
