The Campus Bookstore has selected Patrick DeWitt’s novel Undermajordomo Minor as its book of the week, offered at a discount through January 31. Normally $32, it will sell this week for $26.50.
The book is an adventure, and a mystery, and a searing portrayal of rural Alpine bad behaviour, but above all it is the love story of Lucien Minor. After taking a position as undermajordomo of the foreboding Castle Von Aux, he encounters thieves, madmen, aristocrats, and Klara—whose beauty sets off a tale of polite theft, bitter heartbreak, domestic mystery, and cold-blooded murder.
Undermajordomo Minor landed on the long list for the 2015 Giller Prize. DeWitt’s last novel, The Sisters Brothers, won the Governor General’s Award for fiction.
