This course is intended for those who have a basic familiarity with CATIA v5 part design workbench wishing to create and simulate the motion of mechanisms with software. The majority of the common joint types are covered. Participants from academia, designers in industry and practicing engineers who are using CATIA v5 can easily follow this workshop and develop a sound, yet practical understanding of simulating mechanisms in this powerful software. The course participants are presented with a simple project where a mechanism is created in Catia and then a prototype in made using 3D-printing.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- prepare assemblies to perform as a mechanism
- create joints from assembly constraints and/or directly in DMU
- simulate the mechanism and create animation videos for motion
- introduce physics into the mechanism by using the Knowledge module
- plot the generated simulation results for verification
- perform basic programming for creating piecewise time variation
- export kinematic data to other utility software such as excel
Students that successfully complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion that reads: "Mechanism Design and Animation with CATIA".

CATIA is a multi-platform software suite for computer-aided design, manufacturing, and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) used across many industries, including automotive, machine, tool, die and mold (MTDM), and aerospace, to develop the products we use in our everyday lives. CATIA's capabilities include 3D modeling, stress analysis, kinematics design, and surface modeling, among many other features.
In this hands-on, applied workshop series, you will gain an understanding of the powerful functionality of CATIA V5, and will use the software to engage in authentic activities and solve real-world problems posed by industry partners.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- create engineering drawings using CATIA
- create 3D objects using the Part Design workbench
- assemble parts and create complicated aggregates of parts using the Assembly Design workbench
- impose assembly constraints as a first step for designing mechanisms
- create Design Tables for automation purposes in the Knowledge workbench
Students that successfully complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion that reads: "CATIA Foundations".

The objective of this course is to expose the beginners in CATIA v5 to the FEA capabilites within the software. The parts created and analyzed in the course are simple enough so as not to distract the participant from the FEA functionalities of Catia. Students are particularly exposed to the strong points of the package and its limitations. No previous experience with FEA is required, however the participant is assumed to have basic familiarities with the CAD aspects of CATIA.

- perform static and dynamic finite element analysis of a single part
- choose different types of elements (beam, shell, solid)
- perform static analysis of assemblies
- perform hybrid analysis
- perform buckling analysis of parts
- understand the mesh convergence and mesh refinement strategies
- comprehend the difference between linear vs non-linear analysis
Students that successfully complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion that reads: "Finite Element Analysis with CATIA".
