Funding

Canadian students:

  • Generally receive the University of Windsor Entrance Scholarship (renewable each year) that covers most of the domestic tuition fees for a period of four years, plus a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GAship; renewable for a total of approximately 3 1/2 years).
  • Apply for SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships in the Fall (for the following September).

International students generally receive the same financial support: (1) the International Doctoral Entrance Scholarship (IDES) and (2) the GAship.  Together these cover most but not all of the international tuition fees and provide for no living expenses. International students will need to have their own sources of funding. Also, please note that we may not be able to offer all qualified students IDES. Early application, in December of the previous year, improves your chances of being offered the full package.

All students:

  • Apply for Ontario Graduate Scholarships in early January (for Fall)
  • Pursue other sources of funding, including non-academic engagement of their research, such as from countries of origin, and the Mitacs program.
  • Research assistantships arise from time to time.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies hosts the online application portal and provides general information about admissions, including details about scholarships and funding. Information about tuition fees and payment comes from the Finance Department (Argumentation Studies is not listed yet, but it will be the same as for a PhD in Sociology or Psychology). International applicants will find helpful information on the International Student Centre website.
