Artist in Residence: Kat Singer
October 7-11, 2024
Kat Singer (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and mental health professional. Their work spans an ever-expanding range of media, including photography, street art, painting, textile, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and performance. Passionate about sustainability and creative reuse, they work predominantly with recycled materials. Their artwork has been shown at a range of venues and events, including the Scotiabank Contact Festival, Textile Museum of Canada, and Rendezvous With Madness Festival. They speak at conferences, facilitate art-making sessions, and collaborate with arts-based initiatives that help build community, and empower individuals living on the margins.
Reception: Friday, October 11, from 3:30 - 5:30 pm at the Armouries building. This event is free and open to the public.
Located in the downtown core of Windsor, the SoCA Gallery is a not-for-profit university exhibition space which is used to support our current educational programs in the School of Creative Arts (SoCA). Its primary focus is to develop best practices in exhibition standards for our undergraduate and graduate students. We also aim to support, where resources permit*, the needs of the academic community more broadly as well as the work of alumni and the arts community more generally.
SoCA Gallery gives precedence to the following:
• Faculty-directed/curated research exhibitions
• Student organized group exhibitions
• Visiting artists exhibitions/workshops
• Community partnerships
• Alumni projects
*Gallery fees are not paid unless granted through external funding sources.
Submissions: Your application will be reviewed by the SoCA Gallery Committee. The committee will decide if your submission is successful. Send applications to: romao1@uwindsor.ca.
