Graduate Funding Information

Financial Support for Research-Stream Graduate Programs:

If you are Master's or PhD student, the amount of your funding package, duration of funding, and how the funding is composed will depend on your supervisor(s).

For full consideration for funding opportunities, MSc and PhD applications must be submitted before January 5 of each year.

For eligible graduate students, your funding package may contain a combination of the following support:

Graduate (Teaching) Assistantships:

Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GAships) are available to PhD and MSc students. No separate application is required upon admission, but students must apply in advance of each semester to be assigned a GAship. Decisions on assistantships and duties are made by the department; a full-time assignment will involve 10 hours per week preparing for classes, teaching laboratory sessions, grading assignments, tests and examinations, and proctoring tests and examinations.
This funding will continue for the period of the student's program to a minimum of 3 and maximum of 4 terms in the MSc program and a minimum of 7 and maximum of 8 terms for the PhD program.

Graduate Assistantships will be reviewed and renewed each term by the Graduate Studies Committee.

Note: Master’s Qualifying (M1 level) do not qualify for Teaching Assistantships.
