Police Accountability: What is Law's Role?
Please join us on Monday, January 19 at Canterbury College, 2nd floor, 2500 University Avenue West at the University of Windsor as we bring together civil litigators, police, and legal scholars for a conversation on how their work furthers police accountability in Canada.

BIOS:
- Andrea Anderson graduated from York University with an Honours degree in Political Science and Law & Society. She received a Master of Arts from the Centre for Criminology, University of Toronto and earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Windsor. After working with a prominent Toronto criminal defence firm, Ms. Anderson pursued her Master of Laws at Osgoode Hall. Her researched focused on the implications of racial discrimination in wrongful conviction cases in Canada. She returned to Osgoode as a candidate in the doctoral program. Her current research interests include critical race, gendered & racialized violence, policing, racialization of crime and punishment.
- Al Frederick grew up in the City of Windsor with dreams of becoming an educator. Armed with a B.A. from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor, his career as an educator began not with the School Board, but with the Windsor Police Service. On July 1, 1984 he was hired as a Cadet and over the last 29 years has risen through the ranks until his appointment as Chief of Police on October 11, 2012. Committed to ongoing education he earned his MBA from the University of Windsor in 2009. His focus is on providing opportunities and the professional development of employees to achieve operational excellence.
- Asha James is a graduate of the University of Windsor Law School where she earned an American (JD) and Canadian (LLB) law degrees. She completed her articles with Falconer Charney LLP and was called to the bar of Ontario in June of 2009. During her articles Asha assisted senior litigators in a number of complex cases and appeared before the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board on behalf of a client. Since being called to the bar of Ontario in June of 2009, Asha has acted on a number of police misconduct hearings and has appeared before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Appeal. Asha’s practice is centered around public interest litigation, with a strong focus on human rights and constitutional issues. Asha is currently the Managing Associate at Falconers LLP.
