SPECIALIZED OPTIONAL COURSES:

EXCITING GLOBAL INITIATIVES:

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SERIES (PLS):

The practicum course requires Teacher Candidates to participate fully in a number of learning opportunities through the Professional Learning Series (PLS). The PLS includes information sessions from a number of provincial and local organizations such as the Ontario Colleges of Teachers (OCT), Qualifications Evaluation Council of Ontario (QECO), as well as presentations from school boards and recruiting agencies for overseas teaching opportunities. The PLS also includes professional growth sessions that focus on orientation, curriculum, portfolio requirements and discussions regarding social justice and equity. Collectively, these sessions are intended to enrich your philosophy and broaden your perspective towards your career in education.

My experience this year has been outstanding and rewarding. The knowledge and understanding I have acquired from the Professional Learning Series (PLS) workshops have strengthened my personal development as well as enhanced my overall ability to successfully lead in a continuous learning environment. A prime example is the structured interview process session. I truly believe that this has been a vital component in my learning achievements.” - Mary Martire- I/S Teacher Candidate

SOCIAL JUSTICE IN EDUCATION CONFERENCE

Working collaboratively with our Teacher Candidates and the broader educational community, the faculty annually hosts a Social Justice in Education Conference. This conference is an opportunity to inspire our Teacher Candidates to reflect on the importance of social justice and equity in education.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING SPECIALIST (ELS):

The Experiential Learning Specialist facilitates a community of practice in our teacher education program through consultation and collaboration with Teacher Candidates, Faculty and School Partners as an impartial resource to provide practical support and guidance in the field experience practicum, as well as assisting in the development of strategies to address equity and social justice issues in teacher education.
